We Are Not Meant To Understand Everything

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. -  Deuteronomy 29:29

Have you ever read something in the Bible that was not clear to you or seemed to be missing information that would be key for you to fully understand? People have been struggling with that for centuries. Like God has hidden the truth in the Word and it is up to us to ferret it out. Or not. But what if there are some things that are not revealed to us by God's intent.

Just because we don't fully understand does not mean that the Bible is not inerrant - without flaw. It's like you have been given an equation but there are certain variables that have been left out. So is it because God does not intend for you to know or because God wants you to figure it out.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. - 2 Timothy 3:16-17

The Bible is spiritual but written in natural languages. But to understand the spiritual significance of those words requires the presence to the Spirit of God - To have the presence of the Spirit of God you must be born again by the Spirit. Those things in the Bible that are revealed to us are profitable for us to understand, as our pastor says, "Doctrine - about what’s [right], Reproof - about what’s [not right], Correction - about how to [get right], Instruction in righteousness - about how to [stay right]".

I know that you all are familiar with the Gospels – but the Word of God can seem as if it is new each time I read it. The question I ask myself is “What eternal truth does the Lord want me to be reminded of today?” My problem is not that there are things that I don't understand or want to know - but that I have a hard enough time obeying what I do understand and know already.

But concerning that day and hour [of Jesus return] no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. - Matthew 24:36

Do you think it bothered Jesus that He did not know when He was coming back for the Church?  I don't. I think He was OK with that. Why? Because He was submitted to the will of the Father. Think about this verse in the context of what I am writing about.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones. - Proverbs 3:5-8

Wanting to know what God the Father knows started in the Garden if you will recall.

And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die. Then the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. - Genesis 3:2-6

It is a slippery slope you will find yourself on when you begin to think that God is keeping things from you out of spite or selfishness or even meanness.  That maybe He does not love you as much as He says He does. Oh, be careful my friend. As Paul prayed for the church in Ephesus, I pray this for you ...

[I make] mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places - Ephesians 1:16-20

Believe it – walk in it. Let your light shine and give God the glory.
