Looking For Answers In All The Wrong Places

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. - Psalm 146:1-4

There is, has been and always will be turmoil among people in this world. People look for a savior - not Jesus - but a person. Someone who can solve the world's problems - stop wars, eliminate hunger, defeat crime, cure diseases and prevent injustice. Oh - but as a Christian you say - there is no one human who can do that - only God. True - but a truth that is only understood by those who have been born again spiritually.

Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. - 1 Corinthians 2:12-14

A "natural person" is someone who cannot understand spiritual truth because they have not been born again. Maybe you are thinking - "tell me something that I don't already know!" You may know it - but very often as we face life, we forget that we know it. God cannot be understood - believed or trusted by the natural person - telling someone that they need Jesus when the Holy Spirit is not at work in their heart is like speaking a foreign language to them. Have you ever been somewhere that they people around you were speaking a language that you did not understand? It can be very frustrating and unsettling. The heart of the natural man is set on natural solutions. Solutions their minds can comprehend and so their thoughts and understanding are limited to the natural world and its wisdom.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. - Isaiah 55:8-9

Do you see? Mankind is floundering in its quest for wisdom and that wisdom is and always will be just out of reach for them. One generation may defeat a terrible evil, only to have evil rise up again in another part of the world. The reason is that until Jesus returns sin will persist. It will continue to reign in the heart of man. Sin can only be defeated through faith in Jesus. Jesus that the world rejects because although it wants an answer - it is looking for natural answers not a spiritual answer which is Jesus.

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Psalm 146:5-10

That is the world you live in. There was a movie with Tom Cruise .... and Jack Nicholson where Jack Nicholson told Tom Cruise "You want the truth - you can't stand the truth!" Well that is the plight of the world we live in. As for you -- Be the light!

sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear -  1 Peter 3:15

Think about it – Pray about it – Believe it – Walk in it. Let your light shine and give God the glory.

By Faith Alone By His Grace Alone And For His Glory Alone
