…who Himself bore our sins in
His own body on the tree… —1 Peter 2:24
{CHAMBERS} “The Cross of Christ is the revealed truth of God’s
judgment on sin. […] Jesus Christ … made it possible for the entire human race
to be brought back into a right-standing relationship with God. […] Beware of
separating “God was manifested in the flesh…” from “…He made Him…to be sin for
us…” (1 Timothy 3:16 ; 2 Corinthians 5:21). […] The Cross is the central event
in time and eternity, and the answer to all the problems of both[…] The heart
of salvation is the Cross of Christ. The reason salvation is so easy to obtain
is that it cost God so much.”
{ELGIN} (Matthew 16:13-17)
“When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples,
“Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the
Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living
God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and
blood, but by my Father in heaven.”
All spiritual truth is a
revelation from heaven through God’s Word and by the Holy Spirit. When Peter declared that Jesus was the Christ
– the Messiah – the anointed One, Jesus said that man cannot know that unless
the Father reveals it to him. When you first
believed … it was a spiritual event … a kingdom revelation … a gift of
God. (Ephesians 2:8-10) “For it is by grace you have been saved, through
faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we
are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God
prepared in advance for us to do.” It is an amazing thing … and we have to work
very hard to not trivialize it after it happens. What I mean by that is this. Your salvation has eternal significance and
the fact that you are a child of God should dominate every aspect of the
earthly life you have remaining. The
chief end of man is to “glorify God and enjoy Him forever” You are living in forever … it is not some
time in the future .. after you die. I
want to encourage you to embrace that truth and to understand the significance
of who you are in Christ. And that knowledge should impact how you live your earthly life ... what you do and what you don't do. .. what you say and don't say .. what you love and don't love ... what you want and don't want. The importance
of this will not be revealed to you by flesh and blood but by our Father in
heaven. But only if you are seeking Him
out … living for Him and not yourself.
Think about it … and listen for God to speak.
