Woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! —1 Corinthians 9:16
{CHAMBERS} “Beware of refusing to hear the call of
God. Everyone who is saved is called to testify to the fact of his salvation.
[…] There is nothing easier than getting saved, because it is solely God’s
sovereign work— “Look to Me, and be saved…” (Isaiah 45:22). Our Lord never
requires the same conditions for discipleship that he requires for salvation.
We are condemned to salvation through the Cross of Christ. But discipleship has
an option with it— “If anyone…” (Luke 14:26). Paul’s words have to do with our being made servants of
Jesus Christ, and our permission is never asked as to what we will do or where
we will go. God makes us as broken bread and poured-out wine to please
Himself.”
{ELGIN} Some Christians make the opportunities
to share the Gospel, some Christians find themselves faced with the opportunity
to share the Gospel, while still others avoid the opportunity to share the
Gospel. I dare say that every Christian has been faced with the second
and probably nearly every Christian has given in to the third. (1
Peter 3:15) “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready
to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in
you” If we are going to share the Gospel we must do two things – set the
Lord apart in our hearts – in other words make Him First, and second be ready –
which means that we must study and know what it is we believe – and be willing
to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Simple, but not easy. Our
willingness to share our faith is a function of our commitment to our
faith. Peter denied Jesus three times before the cross, but stood before
the very people who condemned and crucified Jesus after the cross, filled with
the Holy Spirit. You can do nothing for God without the power of the
Spirit. Sharing the Gospel is a spiritual act not merely an act of the
will.
