Living in the Presence of a Problem

My Utmost For His Highest

Hebrews 13:5-6 ‘Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”’

‘The faith of many people begins to falter when apprehensions enter their thinking, and they forget the meaning of God’s assurance— they forget to take a deep spiritual breath. The only way to remove the fear from our lives is to listen to God’s assurance to us. What are you fearing? Whatever it may be, you are not a coward about it— you are determined to face it, yet you still have a feeling of fear. When it seems that there is nothing and no one to help you, say to yourself, “But ’The Lord is my helper’ this very moment, even in my present circumstance.” Are you learning to listen to God before you speak, or are you saying things and then trying to make God’s Word fit what you have said? Take hold of the Father’s assurance, and then say with strong courage, “I will not fear.” It does not matter what evil or wrong may be in our way, because “He Himself has said, ’I will never leave you . . . .’ ”’ CHAMBERS

When you are faced with a difficult trial in your life .. one that overwhelms you … one that tests everything that you believe and trust in ..

That is the time you need to stop and take a deep spiritual breath.  You must step back .. and focus on God … remember who He is .. what He has done … and what He has promised to do.  We must decide to trust in God … “lean on the everlasting arms .. safe and secure from all alarms” When you are faced with a trial … emotional, relational, physical, financial … you can become so fixed on it that it consumes you.  There is a term “target fixation” that describes what happens when a pilot loses all awareness of everything but the target.  His speed, his altitude .. everything … and he flies into the ground … Problems can be like that … so we must step back to clear our head … and remember that we are a child of God … and He is able to do more than we can ask or think .. there is nothing too hard for Him.  And if the problem is not removed … He will give us the strength we need to continue in spite of the presence of the problem.

Our God is able.
