May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved
blameless… —1 Thessalonians 5:23
{CHAMBERS} “The great, mysterious work of the Holy Spirit
is in the deep recesses of our being which we cannot reach. Read Psalm 139. The
psalmist implies— “O Lord, You are the God of the early mornings, the God of
the late nights, the God of the mountain peaks, and the God of the sea. […] My
God, search me.” Do we believe that God can fortify and protect our thought
processes far beyond where we can go? “…the blood of Jesus Christ His Son
cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). If this verse means cleansing only on
our conscious level, may God have mercy on us. The man who has been dulled by
sin will say that he is not even conscious of it. But the cleansing from sin we
experience will reach to the heights and depths of our spirit if we will “walk
in the light as He is in the light” (1 John 1:7). The same Spirit that fed the
life of Jesus Christ will feed the life of our spirit.”
{ELGIN} There are times when I really don’t want God
to search my heart. Times I don’t want
to acknowledge the sin that has taken root in me. Like Adam and Eve hiding in the Garden. (Genesis
3:8-10) God is looking for me, but I am avoiding Him because I am ashamed of
my sin. Sounds crazy doesn’t it. Why
would we do that. Because it is in our old nature and the call of our old
nature is always there. The sound of it
can only be dimmed through the strength of our relationship with our Lord.
If you are hiding behind a bush instead of
standing up and saying “Here I am Lord.”, then there is something spiritually
amiss. The thing is, there is no hiding. Like playing peak-a-boo with your baby. You don’t disappear, it’s just that your baby
doesn’t see you. In the same way, God is
always present. His Spirit is in every
Christian, all the time. God will not
cast you out, Jesus has reconciled you for eternity, there is no reason to hide. You have nothing to fear … forgiveness is certain. Pride and guilt prevent you from living in
victory. There is victory in Jesus. (Hebrews 12:1) “Therefore, since we have
so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every
encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author
and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For
consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that
you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
