The Whole World Lives By Faith - But Faith In Whom

"For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So, they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools" - Romans 1:19-22

I am certain you have heard of global warming. I think it became a thing, at least visible on the national stage, and to me, when Vice President Al Gore was in office. I might be wrong about who it started and when.  But, don't get me wrong, I do think our industrialization and dependence on fossil fuels is not doing harm to the environment. Is global warming happening - could be. But did you know that people did not have the ability to officially record temperature data until 1880. So, we are taking 140+ years of data and coming to conclusions about weather patterns since the earth was the earth. More, that this is the first time that when temperatures are getting hotter and it's our fault.

Are you familiar with the idea of correlation versus cause and effect? Is it possible that the earth is in fact warming as part of a cycle that has happened before but perhaps not for thousands of years? And, at the same time, we are exacerbating the occurrence by creating an environmental crisis through pollution? That would be the correlation of two events that are happening at the same time, but one is not causing the other. Cause and effect would mean that our polluting the environment and eradicating the rain forests is what is causing the warming. Since environmental data had not been collected empirically before 1880, we don't have much evidence to prove it .. and cannot really disprove it either - so at this point it is a theory more than a fact. But we cannot risk rejecting it just because we lack empirical data. We are responding to what is observable over several generations. And that is what is called a conundrum - A conundrum being a question or problem that has no clear or easy solution. It can be fanciful, paradoxical, insoluble, or difficult. It can also involve political, economic, environmental or social issues.

OK, so there must be a spiritual point to this - you are hoping.  There is much that the natural man receives as truth that cannot be proven. A lot of it is theoretical that, over time, has been adopted as truth without proof. "they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools" While there is evidence for the 2000 years that the Christian faith is built on fact - that "what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them." The natural man would prefer to believe a lie - facts that are in dispute before they will embrace the idea of a Creator God and a Redeemer whose name is Jesus. They have rebellious hearts - preferring to serve the god of this world.

"When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” Therefore, they could not believe. For again Isaiah said, “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I [God] would heal them." - John 12:36-40

And so ....

"they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever!" - Romans 1:25

Everyone lives by faith. Faith in themselves and the god of this world or faith in God the Father and redemption through the Son.

Think about it – Pray about it – Believe it – Walk in it. Let your light shine and give God the glory.

By Faith Alone By His Grace Alone And For His Glory Alone
