What To Do When You Feel Like A Grasshopper

My Utmost For His Highest

Thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ… —2 Corinthians 2:14

“The proper perspective to maintain is that we are here for only one purpose— to be captives marching in the procession of Christ’s triumphs. […] How small all the other perspectives are! For example, the ones that say, “I am standing all alone, battling for Jesus,” or, “I have to maintain the cause of Christ and hold down this fort for Him.” […] It was Paul’s joy to be a captive of the Lord, and he had no other interest in heaven or on earth. It is a shameful thing for a Christian to talk about getting the victory. We should belong so completely to the Victor that it is always His victory, and “we are more than conquerors through Him…” (Romans 8:37). “We are to God the fragrance of Christ…” (2 Corinthians 2:15). We are encompassed with the sweet aroma of Jesus, and wherever we go we are a wonderful refreshment to God.”  CHAMBERS

Something that I forget too easily is that it is not me, but Christ in me.  (Galatians 2:20) I have done a number of things in the cause for Christ that others see as significant.  The truth is that nothing I do in His name is a product of my self-effort.  Anything that I do for Him must be done by Him.  The eternal quality of my life is from God. Not me.  At this particular moment I am trying to help the Haitian people recover from the devastation of Hurricane Matthew.  The truth is that what has happened to the people there is much bigger than I am, but not bigger than God.  If I am not careful I will start to think that I am the source of relief, but I am not, God is.  Our part in this great “play” is to be faithful … to be obedient to what we know God has called us to.  What is your Haiti? What are you facing that is overwhelming.  That makes you feel like a grasshopper in comparison?  (Numbers 13:33) Trust God.  (Proverbs 3:5-6) Be faithful and obedient.  That is challenge enough without trying to be God too, don’t you think? I do. ELGIN

I Surrender All

All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give.
I will ever love and trust Him, In His presence daily live.
I surrender all.  I surrender all.
All to Thee my blessed savior.  I surrender all.
