What Happens When We Lose Sight Of God

““Where there is no revelation [or prophetic vision]….” Once we lose sight of God, we begin to be reckless. We cast off certain restraints from activities we know are wrong. We set prayer aside as well and cease having God’s vision in the little things of life. We simply begin to act on our own initiative. If we are eating only out of our own hand, and doing things solely on our own initiative without expecting God to come in, we are on a downward path. We have lost the vision. Is our attitude today an attitude that flows from our vision of God? Are we expecting God to do greater things than He has ever done before? Is there a freshness and a vitality in our spiritual outlook?” CHAMBERS

Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) “Where there is no vision, the people perish”

Practicing the disciplines of the faith is not an option for a Christian, it is as necessary as water or air or food.  You cannot survive spiritually if you are not preserving and protecting your relationship with God.  As Chambers said “you are eating out of your own hand”.  Have you ever seen a plastic Jesus on the dashboard of someone’s car .. not so much today, but it was common some years ago.  Or maybe a fish symbol on the trunk lid of a car.  What are those things?  Symbols of the person’s faith … but what kind of faith?  Is it a faith that is practiced or a faith that is presumptuous.  Is that person spending time with the Lord .. praying, reading, worshiping or is that person presuming that saying “yes” to Jesus was all they had to do.  Get saved and Jesus will do all the rest.  I can live my life as I want and God will bail me out of the messes I make .. and the troubles I face.  That is what I mean by presumption.  And when He doesn’t they become angry with God as if somehow He has not lived up to His end of the bargain.  That is ignorance on their part.  And why are they ignorant?  Because they have not made knowing God a priority in their life.  They are the priority in their life … they expect God to serve them .. not the other way around.  Be on your guard that you do not fall into this way of thinking and doing or not-doing.  And if you are already there . .repent.  ELGIN
