A Fatal Attraction

My Utmost For His Highest

'The rich young ruler had the controlling passion to be perfect. When he saw Jesus Christ, he wanted to be like Him. Our Lord never places anyone’s personal holiness above everything else when He calls a disciple. Jesus’ primary consideration is my absolute annihilation of my right to myself and my identification with Him, which means having a relationship with Him in which there are no other relationships. Luke 14:26  has nothing to do with salvation or sanctification, but deals solely with unconditional identification with Jesus Christ. Very few of us truly know what is meant by the absolute “go” of unconditional identification with, and abandonment and surrender to, Jesus.' CHAMBERS

Ok, so here we go again .... Laying all down .... it seems to be a recurring theme, doesn't it?  One thing I know, If The Lord says is once, it is important.  If He says it more than once ... well you can guess, can't ya?

It is hard to give it all up.  Oh we can give a lot, but many times there is something that we have tucked away ... a plan B if you will.  With God there is only one plan .. His ... The Bible is replete with stories about people who wanted to have a plan B .. As if they knew better than God ... when and if we were asked that question, our response would be .. No way ... we will trust God .. but if we are honest .. there is something that we want to hang on to. That perhaps we don't even realize that we have hidden.  Jesus says .. lay it down.

Maybe it's a retirement fund, a house that you want to live in one day, a job that you can go back to (if this does not work out) or maybe some things that you have in boxes that mean a lot to you.  And God is saying let them go.   He is not looking at the things you cherish, but your heart.

Do you remember the story about Lot's wife?  What was she thinking about when she looked back on those cities?  Was she remembering the children who stayed, the home she abandoned?  Her friends .. her dreams?  We won't ever know, but whatever it was, it was a fatal attraction ....

Give it all to the Lord ... don't look back ... give it all to Him and He will direct your path ... and where He guides He provides .....
