"Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left." - Isaiah 30:21
Our pastor said "You can't walk with God if you are not listening to God." Does that seem like a no brainer? If it does, then my next question would be why do so many Christians struggle with it?
In the military there are some munitions that are fired from jets and helicopters that are called "fire and forget." That means that once the pilot has pushed the button to fire the weapon they don't have to track whatever they fired until it hits the target. They can forget it and move on. Someone or something else - not in the aircraft is tracking the munition.
As Christians, when we are born again or perhaps afterward when we are called by God for a certain task, God does not launch us out into the world and then forget about us. To live our lives successfully we must be in constant contact with the Father.
"Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper." - Psalm 1:1-3
When we are born again, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit, who is our Helper. The Spirit enables our connection with God. The Word of God provides the context for our relationship. When God speaks to us by the Spirit He does so through the Bible, prayer, circumstances and other Christians.
"Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, Says the Lord of hosts." - Zechariah 4:6
We should not try to live our lives in our own power and natural abilities or aptitudes. The life we live is supernatural not natural. Staying connected to God is fundamental to living our new life.
"A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps." - Proverbs 16:9
That direction comes from relationship - a close relationship - a love relationship where you love God above all else.
